Building Blocks of Art
Saturdays, October 6, 27
10:30 am-12noon ages 7-11
These art exploration classes help kids explore the tools artists use to build works of art from line to texture and everything in between. In each session, students are introduced to one or two building blocks and a different technique inspired by the current exhibits on display. Students will then apply what they learn to create their own art. All projects for this series of Building Blocks of Art will tie in with the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration.
Oct 27 - “La Catrina/El Catrin” - Students will learn about Jose Posada, the famous 19th century Mexican American illustrator most known for popularizing the images of calaveras around Day of the Dead. Students will work in 3 dimensions, dressing and refining clay figurines of the bourgeoise characters la catrina y el catrin that Posada so frequently lampooned in his time.
