Olguin Tapia Heredia was born in Michoacán, Mexico and raised in Oxnard, CA. He received his Associate Degree in Studio Arts from Oxnard College and his Bachelor's Degree in Studio Arts at California State University, Los Angeles. As a young emerging artist, Olguin has received many awards for his art and has exhibited in numerous art spaces including, 18thStreet Arts Center (Santa Monica), Bell Arts Studio Complex (Ventura), Upfront Gallery (Ventura), McNish Gallery (Oxnard), Scorpion (Hollywood) and 643 Project Space (Ventura) among many other venues. Olguin is also a co-founder and active member of ONE NIGHT STAND PROJECT, a group of Oxnard artists focused on organizing one-night, hit and run experimental shows throughout Ventura County.
Olguin Tapia’s paintings and sculptures deal with the essence of his everyday memories in his life and the ideology of never forgetting what his grandfather who passed away once told him, “Remember who you are and never forget where you came from.” With such words, Olguin tries to develop work that attempt to recreate and interpret those memories that shaped him to be who he is today. His work consists of acrylic, oil and water color paints juxtaposed with found objects like cardboard, metal, wood, plastic, dirty clothes and others similar ready-made items that convey a strong atmosphere with interesting shapes and patterns.
See his work at the studio through November 8th.
