Artist's Gallery Talk: Gail Roberts 6:30 pm Gail Roberts will discuss the development of the Entanglement series. More specifically, she will discuss the choice of subject matter, the relationship between the birds’ nests, books and passages of text and the connections to her personal life. The artist will also clarify the intent of her inquiry and investigation. Roberts will further share the technical and conceptual processes involved in creating this series from the initial idea to the end result. Gail Roberts received her BFA and MA at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and is currently a Professor of Art at San Diego State University. Roberts has received numerous awards including a: California Arts Council Fellowship, Alfred and Trafford Klotts Fellowship Residency in France, and Julia and David White Fellowship Residency in Costa Rica. In 2001 she was commissioned by the Port of San Diego to complete a 13' x 25' multi-paneled painting entitled Tree Lines located at the San Diego International Airport. Roberts’ work has been exhibited nationally at the: Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; California Center for the Arts Museum, Escondido; Fresno Metropolitan Museum; Riverside Art Museum; Carnegie Art Museum; Oxnard; Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, and Madison Art Center, Wisconsin. Internationally, her art has been exhibited at the: Musee Rochefort-en-terre, in Brittany, France; Museo Nacional in San Jose, Costa Rica; and Kinemacolor Building in Victoria, Canada. Roberts’ work is included in permanent collections at the: Oakland Museum: Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; San Diego Museum of Art; Lux Art Institute as well as numerous corporate and private collections. |
