School Programs
The CAM Education Department is pleased to offer guided tours of the museum's exhibitions and workshops that complement the exhibit. Tours are available Tuesday through Saturday by appointment only.
School Tours for Grades K-8
The Carnegie Art Museum's School Tour Program is designed to present a rich visual arts experience, increase students' perception and analytic skills, and provide students with the opportunity to explore their creative talents. CAM’s School Tour Program is aligned with the California State Content Standards for Visual Arts, Language Arts, and History/Social Studies.
The School Tours Program includes:
*A 30 minute pre-visit presentation in the classroom
*A comprehensive Teacher Packet with exhibit related lessons, information and resources / sample teacher packet.
*A 90 minute visit to the Carnegie Art Museum, beginning with a 45 minute guided tour of the current exhibit by an Education Department staff member and concludes with a 45 minute hands-on exhibit related art project led by a professional artist.
The cost of the School Tour Program is $85 per class (up to 35 students).
Art Smart: In Your Classroom (Grades K-6)
The Carnegie Art Museum's Art Smart Program is an outreach art education program designed to enhance and enrich students' knowledge of art history and artists through a combination of literacy activities, discussion, and a hands-on art activity. CAM's Art Smart Program is aligned with the California State Content Standards for Visual Arts, Language Arts, and History/Social Studies. Art Smart offerings include Matisse the Wild Beast for students grades K-3rd and Master Muralist, Diego Rivera for students in grades 4th-6th.
The Art Smart: In Your Classroom Program includes:
* An Art Smart Kit with pre-visit lessons and activities to be implemented by the classroom teacher, a book about the featured artist, and an educational DVD
* A 60 minute in-class interactive art project led by a professional artist
The cost of the Art Smart Program is $50 per class (up to 35 students).
