Volunteer Opportunities
Much of the success of the Carnegie Art Museum is due to the generous support of volunteers. We encourage you to share your valuable time and skills with us through a variety of rewarding opportunities. You will meet new people, develop new skills, and support the arts. For many of our volunteer positions, you will work individually with members of a small but dedicated staff. We hope that you enjoy exploring some of the different ways that you can give back to the Arts and the Community by helping the CAM share the wonders of art.
Current Opportunities
Saturday Volunteer- weekends are busy with visitors and student programs, this position will help the front desk staff greet the public. It also involves working independently on a wide variety of mini projects: helping prepare the Education Department’s materials for workshops, organize supplies and publications, or assisting with distributing events information. For the responsible person interested in diverse experiences from simple to complex. Hours needed: Saturdays 11am- 1:30pm.
Family Day Story Teller- are you an educator or good speaker?
Several college-adult volunteers who love to read aloud are sought by the Education Department to present a children’s storybook as a regular feature of our free Family Days. Held quarterly on Saturdays from 11-3pm, interactive Family Day projects include a story that relates to the current exhibition taking 30-60 minutes of volunteer time.
Family Day Docents- want to help children and parents learn more about our exhibits?
Several college-adult volunteers are needed to help the Education staff prepare ahead for Family Day and then the day of help set up, assist with family projects and finally clean up. Background in arts, parenting or education is a plus.
In addition to the immediate position needs above, the Museum seeks the help of responsible volunteers to accomplish a variety of on-going projects and programs. You may be interested assisting with projects in the areas of: Education, Exhibits/Collections, Visitor Services, Research, or Special Events. Volunteering in one of these areas might involve giving tours, recruiting new museum members, marketing or setting up a Special Event. During the volunteer interview the Museum tries to tailor a volunteer project to your experience and the Carnegie’s changing needs.
